Thank you to all our families who donated non-perishable items to our Christmas food appeal. Your generosity is much appreciated and these items will be distributed to families in need this Christmas time.
Thank you to the Carpenter family for donating a beautiful Christmas tree to the school. Younger classes decorated the tree. We also added all our class illustrations from the Jesse tree stories. These are bible stories from the Old Testament. All classes shared these stories during Advent. |

Harvest Fair Day - Friday 21st October
Friday 21st October saw the return of our school Fair Day. Previously held in the summer term but held this year as an autumn fair, this event always creates huge excitement for the pupils in school. Thank you so much to everyone who supported this event. There was a wonderful atmosphere and a whopping 1400 euro was raised. The coffee morning and cake stalls boasted the most wonderful and delicious treats. 5th & 6th class ran fun stalls for pupils providing lots of fun, excitement and games. They really showed their entrepreneurial skills on stalls: weigh the pumpkin, pin the nose on the witch, Splat the rat, sand treasure and arts & crafts - not to mention their own amazing treat stall.
Thank you to our PTA committee who helped organised and run the event and to all parents, family and friends who supported in any way.
Well done also to winners on the day! The 200 square prize winners: 1st place (Liz Hendy), 2nd prize ( Mike Hogan), 3rd prize (Ann- Marie Doyle). Our sand treasure winner was Nathan Hogan.

The children participated in a wonderful harvest thanksgiving service in Kilcommon Church on Friday 14th October. This was a happy, joyous event which was led by the pupils in the senior room. Pupils from all classes joined in the celebration; decorating the church, singing songs, reading stories and prayers and sharing a mini-drama & action poem, both with very special meanings.Thank you to Canon Hayden who led the service. Wishing Archdeacon a very speedy recovery.

Aistear in the Infant room - The picnic
Aistear is the curriculum framework for young children in Ireland. It provides enjoyable and challenging learning experiences, so that all children can grow and develop as competent and confident learners within loving relationships with others. Aistear describes the types of learning (dispositions, values and attitudes, skills, knowledge, and understanding) that are important for children in their early years and offers ideas and suggestions as to how this learning might be nurtured.
Aistear in the infant room this week involved preparing for a picnic.

Traditional music group visit K.N.S.
We were delighted to welcome traditional musicians to the school on Friday 16th September. 1st - 6th classes gathered together in the school hall for a feast of traditional music. There was lots of time for questions and answers. Pupils listened to wonderful singing and joined in clapping along to a range of song played by the harp, whistle and harp. Thank you to the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely and Music Network for arranging this lovely event.
K.N.S. - our 'thinking tree'
Our first assembly of the year was on Friday 2nd September. The whole school gathered together for the assembly which was lead by Archdeacon Ruth. It was important for our school community that part of this back to school assembly would be spent discussing emotions and what we can do when we feel happy and when we feel very sad. Following the assembly we planted our new school 'thinking tree' behind our school 'buddy bench'. This is now not only a place to sit when we need a friend but somewhere to sit when we feel a little sad and want a few minutes to think about happy memories and things that make us feel happy. Thank you to Nicolette who donated the lovely magnolia tree.
First day of a new term!
A great way to start a new term! The whole school took advantage of the lovely weather and went for a walk down to the Old Railway Walk on Wednesday 31st August. A chance to chat with our friends and get the new term off to a great start.
