Proclamation Day.
On 15th March, we celebrated the 1916 Easter Rising.  Before that, 5th & 6th class wrote their own proclamation for 2016.  The boys in 6th class read that proclamation out to all the parents who were there.  Rev. Ruth said some prayers and Zoe read out the Lord’s Prayer in Irish.  After that, we sang the National Anthem and then we raised the Irish Flag.  Finally, we went to the back of the school and had a school céilí.  We had learnt the dances in P.E. classes, even some of the parents joined in!  It was great fun.

5th & 6th Class Proclamation 2016

As citizens of Ireland, we the children of Kilcommon National School, write this proclamation in 2016 remembering those who fought and died for us in 1916 so that we can enjoy our freedom in Ireland today..

We think of all those less fortunate than us. In Ireland there are too many people waiting for operations and treatment. No one should have to wait for extended periods of time on a trolley. We will ensure that there are enough hospital beds for all in need of care.
We will ensure that everybody has a safe and warm place to call home. We want to raise awareness of homelessness, both within our community and at government level, to make sure that nobody has to live on the streets.

We want to live in an Ireland where everyone has equal rights and no-one is discriminated against because of their skin colour, belief, gender, appearance, ability or disability. We are all equal.

We, as pupils of a proud Green School, want an Ireland where there is clean water, no litter, less pollution and a commitment to minimizing global warming. We should explore renewable sources of energy and remember to reduce, reuse and recycle.  We should take care and respect the beautiful world we live in. We believe that all animals should be treated with care. All zoo animals should be provided with environments similar to their natural habitats. Animals should not be used for make-up, cosmetics or clothing industries.

We want our leaders to make sensible and wise decisions for the benefit of the people of Ireland. They should listen to the people and let them express their opinions. We want safe roads, good public transportation and suitable amenities in all communities, urban or rural. We will look after the elderly in society, whether at home, in nursing homes or in hospital. We will have a strong police force in all areas to ensure the safety of the people of Ireland. We want to ensure that there are good jobs created for everybody in Ireland that are fairly paid and we will encourage those who have emigrated for jobs to return,  to ensure that no-one is forced to emigrate in search of work.

In Ireland, every child should have a right to a good education. We will have warm and well equipped schools, not prefabs. We will decrease class sizes and funding will be allocated to education so that equipment can be updated and further supports provided for pupils with specific educational needs.

We share this, our proclamation with the people so that Ireland can be a better, peaceful and happy place to live.
