All about our PTA!

Kilcommon National School has an active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association. They contribute extensively to the life of the school and supporting the work of the school in many ways. Without the support of the PTA, the school would not be able to provide the comprehensive and broad educational experience to the children in the school.

If you have any issues that you would like to raise at a PTA meeting, please speak to one of the PTA committee members who will pass your message on to our PTA secretary for inclusion on the next agenda. Please note that PTA meetings are a forum to discuss the PTA work within the school. If you have a concern or issues related to your child, please talk to the class teacher who will be better equipped to advise you specifically about your child.

The PTA is made up of a group of parents with children attending the school.  One staff member is on the committee.  The PTA is involved with fundraising for school activities, classroom equipment and extra-curricular activities. They also liaise with other parents on matters concerning fundraising and the school in general.  The PTA is not involved in any decision-making on school policy or legislation; this is the role of the Board of Management.

The PTA is a representative body for all parents in the school. Opinions and contributions will be taken into consideration when policies are being drawn up or reviewed.
KNS PTA has been involved with the organising of our Fair Day,Christmas fairs, clothes events, Cheerios breakfast events, pancake days, school discos etc .
KNS PTA has helped to raise funds for computers, I-pads, sports equipment, science and baking equipment, visiting tutors, novels, readers and library books. Buses have been subsidised and much more

The PTA also organise talks for parents.  We have had a representative from the NPC to talk about children’s needs and parenting, and have run a series of drugs awareness evenings. internet safety and anti bullying workshops have been arranged.
Parents can help the school by taking an active part on the PTA Committee, and participating in the various events organised by them.
We encourage every family to give at least one year to the PTA Committee during their child’s eight years of education with us.
